All new students must attend an orientation day at the main campus -- to sign up, visit neiu.edu/orientation. NEIU’s Orientation Program is designed to introduce you to all of the resources we have available on campus to help ensure your academic and social transition into our community is as smooth as possible. We want to make sure you have everything you need to be successful once you begin classes, including financial aid information, knowing what is expected of you as a community member, as well as all of the resources and tools available to you, so that you know exactly where to go for help when you need it. We will also provide you with an opportunity to meet other incoming students, learn about the experiences of current students (our Orientation Leaders), and to take a tour of campus.

Immunization Records

All students must provide documentation of immunization/vaccination history to ŷ����Ϸ���� Illinois University Student Health Services. Immunization records can be submitted through their NEIU email to health-services@neiu.edu, or other Instructions are available online. Discounted vaccinations and free immunization reviews are available at NEIU Student Health Services.

It is highly recommended that all students receive their COVID - 19 vaccinations, including boosters. Any positive cases should be reported to Student Health Services by email with a copy of your positive results. Return to Campus-Student Information has further details.

Deferring Your Admission

First, activate your account in NEIUport, the University’s secure online portal, so you can access information, your Nmail, online tools, services and more. Once activated, to learn how to:

• Check the status of financial aid awards (if applicable).
• Look up, register, and pay for classes.
• Locate forms and academic resources information.
• Inform the University about changes to your contact information.
• View your academic profile, unofficial transcript, and any holds on your account.
• Check your end-of-semester grades.
• Use the Degree Evaluation tool to model how your credits will count towards fulfilling the requirements for any undergraduate degree program at ŷ����Ϸ����

Official University communications will be sent to your account. You will be responsible for reading and responding to these communications, so please be sure to check your Nmail daily.

N-Safe is the system the University uses to provide students, faculty and staff with security and school closure alerts. Sign up for N-Safe and choose how you'd like notifications to be sent to you – by email and/or text message.

After activating your NEIUport account, you can access additional University accounts and Student Computing Services (SCS) computer lab workstations at all ŷ����Ϸ���� locations. Use your NETID/username and the password you created when you activate your NEIUport account to access the workstations and your other ŷ����Ϸ���� online accounts.

is an online learning environment that houses syllabi, course materials and tools you will use for many of the courses you will take at ŷ����Ϸ����. D2L also enables you to communicate with the faculty members teaching your courses and your classmates. Familiarize yourself with D2L before your first day of classes.

Once your NEIUport account is set up, find the "Registration Tools" card/tile and walk yourself through the steps. If you try to register for a class and get an "override needed" message, email the professor for that class and let them know. They can remove the override if you have the required prerequisites.
