Federal Benefits for Veterans
The Veterans Services Office is the point of contact for Veterans, active duty military members and dependents wishing to utilize their federal Veteran benefits. The office staff will assist Veterans in determining your basic eligibility between programs and how the benefits work with each of their educational goals.
- Federal Veterans benefits programs include:
- Post 9/11 GI Bill®-Chapter 33
- Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty: Chapter 30
- Selective Reserve: Chapter 1606
- Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)-Chapter 1607
- Survivor’s and Dependents’ Educational Assistance Program (DEA)-Chapter 35
- Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Chapter 31
- Federal Tuition Assistance (TA)
VA Pending Payment Policy for Students Using Federal VA Benefits
NEIU will not prevent a student’s registration or enrollment if that student is receiving federal Veteran’s benefits as approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and NEIU has not received payment from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. In addition, NEIU will not assess a late penalty fee to the student, require that the student to secure alternative or additional funding, or deny the student access to any resource (e.g., access to classes, library, or other institutional facilities) available to other students who have satisfied their tuition and fee bills to NEIU.
However, to qualify for the above provision, such student may be required to:
Produce the VA Certification of Eligibility (COE/LOE) by the first day of class, provide a written request to be certified (by using the NEIU Veteran Request for Certification form), and provide additional information needed to properly certify the enrollment as described in other institutional policies. All documentation should be provided to the NEIU Veterans Services Office.
